How discovery works
Nanbu's job is to help you find creators worth supporting, not to keep you scrolling. So the way creators are ordered is a simple, published rule - and this page is the whole of it.
The two rules that never change
- Once you join or follow a creator, every one of their posts reaches you, newest first. No algorithm sits between a creator and their circle - not now, not ever.
- Ranking only ever orders creators on the Discover page. Posts are never ranked: a post appears on the sampler because its creator earned the slot, and it is simply their newest work.
What counts
A creator's place on Discover comes from a small set of signals, recomputed a few times a day:
- Rhythm - how many of the last 8 weeks they published a post or an update.
- A complete page - photo, banner, bio, a membership you could actually join, real posts, identity verification.
- New relationships - joins and follows in the last 28 days, relative to their own size, so a small circle growing steadily stands next to a big one.
- Visits that become joins - quality over traffic. Sending yourself visitors makes this worse, not better.
New creators get a temporary boost in their first three weeks, so a brand-new page can be found before any history exists. Within close scores, the order rotates daily - ties never freeze.
What never counts
- Likes, comments, and view counts. Ever.
- Watch time, or any measure of your attention.
- Money. Placement is never for sale - there are no promoted slots and no boosts, and there never will be.
Upheld reports against a creator's content lower their placement, and only a human review can go further than that.
The shelves
- Picked by Nanbu - chosen by a person, with the reason printed beside each pick.
- Growing circles - the most new joins and follows in the last 28 days, relative to size.
- New on Nanbu - pages that opened in the last 30 days.
- Hidden gems - consistent, complete pages the traffic has not found yet.
- For you - matches the interests you picked and the circles you already belong to. Only when you are signed in, and only if you leave personalization on.
A shelf that cannot honestly fill does not appear. Every discovery page ends - there is no infinite feed here.
What stays private
To personalize the For-you shelf, Nanbu may remember three kinds of things you do while signed in: searches, creator pages you open, and shelf clicks. Each is kept for 90 days. Nanbu never records how long you look at anything, how you scroll, or anything about you while signed out.
You can switch personalization off, clear this history, or export it any time from Settings. Interests are things you pick yourself - nothing is guessed about you.
